Industrial Leadership

Horizon 2020 Industrial Leadership pillar aims at speeding up development of the technologies and innovations that will strengthen tomorrow's businesses.

Making Europe a more attractive location to invest in research and innovation (including eco-innovation), innovative European SMEs together with universities and research centers are supported  in order to grow up into world-leading companies.

Within this framework Leadership in Enabling and Industrial Technologies (LEIT) chapter provides dedicated support for research, development and demonstration and, where appropriate, for standardisation and certification, on

  • Information and communications technology (ICT),
  • Nanotechnology, advanced materials, biotechnology, advanced manufacturing and processing and
  • Space

Under these three main areas Key Enabling Technologies  - KET    are financed mainly.

The emphasis for LEIT actions will be on:

  • Research and innovation to strengthen Europe's industrial capacities and business perspectives, including SMEs,
  • Public-private partnerships (PPPs),
  • Cross-cutting KETs,
  • Seizing the ICT opportunities,
  • Contributions to solving Societal Challenges and to Focus Areas,
  • Cross-cutting aspects, like international cooperation and responsible research and innovation.

The involvement of industrial participants, and of SMEs in particular, is crucial in maximising the expected impact of the actions.

Under LEIT Fast Track to Innovation (FTI) pilot - a fully-bottom-up measure promoting close-to-the-market innovation activities, is financed.
